These May Days

And May has been flying by just like that! There's a lot to catch you up on, so fasten your seat belts and enjoy the ride!

I made cream cheese for the first time.

I think it was even easier than queso blanco. I am going to a second cheese making course next weekend and am very excited to try making brie and feta.

We've taken our new canoe out a couple of times on the lake and it is so much fun! I'm excited for the possibilities that this opens up for us.

My parents came for a week-long visit and it was so wonderful to have them here. The week didn't last long enough and I miss them :(
My dad brought his rocket and Kesten was very excited to watch it.

But a little tentative of the loud noise it made...
Gramps also brought him a glider and Kesten dragged him out to the park several times a day to try it out.

A mama fox is back and she has kits!
Cedar turned one! And she devoured her cake!
This picture really cracks me up.

My dad made her a rocking moose for her birthday! The perfect gift for this little Northern baby.
And he made an easel for Kesten!
Aaaaaand he made a moveable greenhouse frame for my garden! (Busy guy, that Gramps.)
The greenhouse has four frames that are removable and interchangeable with four chicken wire frames. So it can double as a chicken run in the summer when the greenhouse isn't needed. Isn't that cool?
We threw a little party for Cedar on the weekend, dandelion themed. The cake was a dandelion cake with cream cheese icing (homemade cream cheese). It was delicious, if I do say so myself. I really want to make it again before the dandelion blooms disappear.

Cedar's other set of grandparents made it just in time for her party and we had a very nice, albeit too short, visit with them.

My chicks are almost seven weeks old now and quite big! This is a Salmon Faverolle male in the front. I have to find "homes" for them soon.
And here is one of my Salmon Faverolle females.
 Look at that beard!
And my little olive egger pullet. I think this one is my favourite.
This week we went to our friends' new place. There is a pond there. See that black in the water? Those are tadpoles.
 Yup, hundreds of little polliwogs.
Whew. That is most of what has been happening around here. I'll have to post soon and show you are painted lady caterpillars. Three have already formed a chrysalis, one is close and the fifth is not quite there yet. Very exciting stuff! Pictures will follow.
